If all you want are passable pictures to email the relatives, I'd go with a relatively inexpensive digital camera. In terms of taking grab shots of our kid, I have better success with fast B&W film in my Leica than my wife does with her P&S digital. One problem with cheaper digital cameras is the delay between when you push the shutter button and when the camera actually takes a picture. Then, there's another delay before it's ready to take the next picture. Here's her digital workflow: 1. See a cute expression. 2. Push the shutter button. 3. Read a Tolstoy novel until the shutter actually clicks. 4. Look at the LCD to see that the kid is nowhere in the picture, but you have a great closeup of a moving dog body part. If you're lucky, it's on the head end. 5. Curse. 6. Go back to step 1. Here's my Leica workflow: 1. See a cute expression. 2. Focus. 3. Focus again while the baby sees what I'm doing and starts walking toward me, ending up mere inches away. 4. Set the camera out of the kid's reach, give up, and just play with her. You win some, you lost most. :) Eric - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
