Most affordable(ish) digital SLRs have sensors similar to half frame but give pretty good results and DoF effects not too far from 35mm film. If you want the full effect you can pay 5 times the price for double the area, not worth it for me. The dinky P&S digitals can't give the effect but they are amazing for the "negative size". For film to compete on size grounds a 35mm negative would need to translate the same detail onto a 40x30 enlargement as a digicam does on a 10x8.
