Great color saturation and very sharp. Pretty, too! ;-) Kit - -----Original Message----- From: owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us [mailto:owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us] On Behalf Of Phong Sent: Monday, December 01, 2003 10:41 AM To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us Subject: RE: [Leica] The VARIO-ELMARIT-R ASPH f/2.8 - 4.5/28 - 90 mm is there. One thing still remains true: it is much easier to design a high quality telephoto zoom than it is a wide angle zoom. That's what makes the 35-70mm f2.8 R special to me; I would have liked to try it. I didn't quite believe the assertions about the performance of the 70-180 f2.8 Apo Vario Elmarit; I had a chance to use it and now I am a believer. A zoom lens that is as good as, and sometimes even better than, the best primes. Speaking optically, of course; in terms of weight, heft and price, well, there is no equal among the primes with the zoom range either :-) - - Phong John Collier wrote: > > Erwin's review is not all that favorable to the lens in the wide range. > Soft corners, 2.5 stops vignetting, 3% distortion, etc. It does not > sound like it is going to be replacing any of my wides any time soon. > Sure that may be great performance for a zoom but it is far cry from > any of the M wides. - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
