I was told many years ago that two of the reasons Leica located in Midland was the relatively low native temperature and the relative piece and quiet of the location. In other words a nice place to slowly cool down in a very controlled fashion special glass. You do know that the formula in the Nocti takes about 18 months just to cool? That's how slowly the temperature is brought down from the flowing point. Very pure. Whatever that element is next to Uranium that isn't radioactive must be in the glass as it is as heavy as the lead bar we used to keep around to make bullets for the black powder 44. Amazing also in how much that brick will bend light. Not sure yet. Time will tell. Ever seen Noctilux glass? I mean, not in a lens, but in a chunk in your paw? Amazing stuff! Yes, one can, closely enough. That is what cost accounting is all about. > It isn't just the "other" guy's camera with a red dot > on it! ... It actually is, as far as I can tell. Leica seems to have had major input on specs -- but they do not build it -- or do they? All of Leica's previous digitals have been the "other" guy's camera with a red dot. This is not knocking Leica's approach to the D2 (or was it Panasonic's?). Building a digital camera that handles like a film camera is not a bad idea.
