TIME CORRESPONDENT AND PHOTOGRAPHER IN STABLE CONDITION AFTER BEING INJURED IN A GRENADE ATTACK IN BAGHDAD Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003 New York -- On Wednesday, December 10, TIME senior correspondent Michael Weisskopf and TIME photographer James Nachtwey were injured when a grenade was thrown into the Humvee they were traveling in while accompanying U.S. military personnel in Baghdad, TIME managing editor Jim Kelly has confirmed. The attack took place at approximately 9:30 p.m. Iraq time. The identity of the attacker or attackers is not known. Two soldiers in the Humvee at the same time were also injured. Both Michael and Jim are in stable condition and awaiting transfer to a U.S. military hospital in Landstuhl, Germany.
