Wow - all this traffic and no-one has mentioned the obvious solution 
yet(?)

(1) Read the detailed info I have in the Leica FAQ about vulcanite 
repair
and maintenance : <http://nemeng.com/leica/032b.shtml>

(2) If the damage is only tiny, then repair it yourself using "Liquid 
electrical tape"
(see the FAQ listing for details).

(3) If the damage is extensive, then replace the entire vulcanite with 
one
of the (many) offerings at <www.cameraleather.com>.  IMO the "black 
pebbled"
finish matches the vulcanite finish the closest.
