It is certainly disturbing to see young people go through the ordeals of cancer, but I can tell you from my perspective, I grew up very fast visiting the cancer clinic. Although I had a very slim chance of pulling though, I was essentially a healthy, young teenager sitting in a waiting room with people who appeared far more ill than I was. My cancer never "ravaged" my body, but it was real nonetheless -- and I had four vists to the operating room. But I never really considered my self "unfortunate". Perhaps it was my youthful naivity, but I guess I also somehow knew that it was out of my hands as to what would happen.
