Distortion is when straight lines look bend in the picture. If they bend inwards it is pincushion distortion, when they bend outwards it is barrel distortion. This type of distortion is very hard to correct in zoom lenses. In the wide range you have barrel distortion that changes to pincushion distortion in the tele range. It does not disapear when the lens is stopped down. You probably were never very aware of distortion because quality lenses are well corrected. One exception is the Leica 28-70, that is so bad in this respect that I sold it as fast as I could. Nice thing of digital images is that you can correct these distortions. Don't ask me how because I don't know, I also use high quality lenses:-) Best regards, Michiel Fokkema Ted Grant wrote: > Peter Klein wrote and showed:: > >>>Somebody put his SD card in a Digilux 2 during a store demo, and brought > > a > >>>few images home: >> >>http://www.leica-camera.com/discus_e/messages/3/45964.html?1074971082 >>and continuation of the discussion: >>http://www.leica-camera.com/discus_e/messages/3/45740.html?1075081288 > > > Michiel Fokkema offered: > Subject: Re: [Leica] More Digilux 2 images > > > >>Pictures look oke to me but do I see a lot of barrel distortion or is >>something else wrong?<< > > > Hello Michiel, > Because there's more than a good chance I'll purchase a Digilux 2 to > compliment my Canon G5 would you please explain and point out what you mean > "barrel distorion?" > > What and where is the barrel distortion you see in these frames?
