And I, for one, see a huge difference between giving a medal to a civilian contractor who is a contributor to a campaign (Boy! Can you ever read THAT one two ways!:-)) and a journalist who is meant to be an 'objective' observer - which is something we know virtually no war correspondent or photographer ever is, no matter what the war or who the combatants. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us [mailto:owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us] On Behalf Of GREG LORENZO Sent: Monday, February 23, 2004 8:53 PM To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us Subject: Re: RE: [Leica] Embedded Brit journalists will receive Iraq Campaign medal The Victory Medal was presented to some war correspondents in the British Empire during World War I. I believe that campaign "medals" or "stars" were awarded to civilians at least as far back to the Crimean War. There were differences between those awarded decorations for serving under fire versus serving in some other role. Keep in mind, the world of one hundred and fifty years ago was very different then that of today.
