California to the Dallas, Texas area in 1988, and my wife was looking through the sale pages and saw an ad for a Leicaflex SL with 3 lenses. She asked me if this was anything I would be interested in - So I said yes and called the guy up and went to look it over. Ended up going home with the whole package and before long the Nikons were history. Up until then, mid-1990's, I've had a Leica in my hands since I was 8 years old. On my way to look at a 35mm F1.4 Nikkor, I decided to look at a kit someone was selling for $1200, an SL with 4 lenses, with accessories. It was just an act of curiosity, as I wanted to see what $1200 in Leicaflex-R amounted to gear wise. Well, I looked at it, and started to leave to get that 35 Nikkor. Out of courtesy I felt I should at least make an offer, thinking that my offer of $600 would be refused, and I would be on my way to the Nikkor. As it turned out the offer was accepted. So I looked at the camera a little bit more closely, looking for a way out. I saw that it had a slight chip in the viewfinder, but not on the prism. So I tried to wrangle out of it by saying it would cost too much to fix it. The seller trimmed the price even more. Needless to say, I walked out with the kit in hand. My first shoot with it was the Mexican election of 1996 after Donald Collosio was assassinated. After seeing the negs, I was hooked again. After that, it wasn't long before I was back with a slew of M gear. S.
