"Leica: Views of Brand Culture" by Volker Albus and Achim Heine (softbound, 193 pages in German and English) has arrived and is signed by the authors This soft cover book is edited by the heads of Leica's famous design and communications company (both editors are also professors of design in Germany). The book is about the mystique of the brand Leica and one of the best sources of its history, its legends, its culture, advertising and its cameras!. It has 193 pages of text in English and German and is filled with black and white and color photographs (some of the best work done with Leicas) as well as historical photographs of the cameras, Wetzlar, etc. There are articles by such Leica experts as Hans-Michael Koetzle (pp. 20-70) who is the editor-in-chief of Leica World magazine - he writes on the technological and cultural history of the Leica legend. There is a special section on Leica history with photographs of the factory and a timeline by event. Even sections on how the trademark has changed. Plus lots of technical information as it applies to its history. We have about 50 books left and the price is $25.00. "The New Building" by Ralf Niggemann. (Der Neubau). The book is in German with a full English translation inside, is about the famous new building erected by Leitz/Leica in Wetzlar in 1957. The photographs (it is completely taken with the Leica!) beautifully show the architectural qualities of the building which is now part of Wetzlar's municipal administration (Leica vacated it in 1995). This hardcover book is signed by the author, as is the English insert. There are only 10 copies of the original printing (they are all mint with book jackets). The book is regularly $45.00 and our special LUG price is $35.00. "Vanni Calanca: Photographic Tales- With his Leica." M This hardcover book with a preface by Hanns-Peter Cohn (the CEO of Leica) is Calanca's second book. It has 140 pages of the highest quality color photographs of Italy all taken with Leica M6 cameras and with Leica 21, 35 and 90mm lenses. Each photograph has listed the lens used and film. Text is in English, Italian, and German. There are a few pages of text and technical notes, and the rest is the very finest in Leica photography. All books are signed by Vanni Calanca, one of Italy's greatest photographers and a member of the Leica Association in Italy. It is regularly $75.00 and the special LUG price is $45.00 - Only 20 copies left! "Elsie's War: A Story of Courage in Nazi Germany" by Frank Dabbba Smith with an introduction by Henri Cartier-Bresson. Signed by the author. It is about the untold story of Elsie Kühn Leitz, the daughter of Ernst Leitz II, who risked everything to save the Jews during World War II. It is hardcover with a dustjacket and filled with photographs including those of the Leitz factory. Told in a beautiful and simple fashion and is appropriate for both adults and youth. It is exclusive at Leica Gallery - we have two copies left. It was published in Great Britain and is a first edition. It is LUG specially priced at $20.00 (regularly $25.00). Just a reminder.... We still have.... "The Leica Story: A History of the Leica Camera" by Emil Keller, an executive at Leica for over a half-century. There are not many copies left and they are all signed by Mr. Keller.
