Dear Friends,

My 2¢ worth is that the closer a sensor size gets to 1:1 the happier I would
be. The R series promise of 1.37:1 makes my 15mm a 21mm, and so on. I can
certainly live with that restriction for >98% of my photography.

Now, as to the Epson RD1 promise of 1.53:1, my 15mm CV lens now becomes a
23mm lens. If I were to buy a 12mm CV lens, it becomes an 18mm. Honestly,
it's close enough on the wide end so that I'd have little or no complaint.

I own a D100 with 12-24 and 24-120VR. It's a fantastic rig that covers
almost every photographic possibility I typically encounter. Focal length
range with these two lenses is near ideal. It would be nearly the same with
the Leica M primes, with the added advantage of the Leica "look" to the
images, which is exceptional.

Ain't perfect; nothing is these days! But I think it's good enough, all
other matters being equal.

Len

I still hold to the comments I made to that effect, Gene. There are a
few clever things about the RD1, but the 1.53x sensor isn't one of
them. This thing is DOA for me. Looks like I'm still saddled with the
1Ds for a while longer. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a full
frame M in 2006.
