The reader doesn't use a conventional FireWire plug. Instead it uses a plug that goes into the Apple "dock" socket at the bottom of the iPod. Nowhere near FireWire speed (or even USB 1). As simply a portable hard drive, somebody might be able to come up with a decent way to download memory cards to the iPod without a computer, but I don't think the Belkin card reader is it. Bryan
