That is no good for storms that bring tremendous amounts of water. Indeed. Guess they weren't made for 230+ mph. What we are concerned about down here is that we're below sea level, and if the storm surge floods the area and dumps Lake Pontchartrain into the city (it is connected to the gulf), then the city will be sitting it 14 feet of chemically polluted water from all of the petrochemical plants lining the river. I'm not in a flood zone, but I'm still below sea level. If my house gets water, the other houses in the city will be under 20 feet of water. I think Ivan has weakened some on his way in. All the same, I wish those closer to the coast all the luck and grace in the world. Here in Jackson we just expect traffic and rain. Camille, from what I recall, had winds that were 230+ mph at landfall and she was still a category 3 storm when she got 78 miles inland to Hattiesburg. Quite a devastating storm. Good luck and God speed! This looks to have some Camile-esque tendancies that are distrubing. I missed Camile but when PARCHE was in new construction at Ingals in Pascagoula there were water-lines on the building - ABOVE THE SECOND FLOOR WINDOWS - that maked the extent of flooding. And if you needed to kill an afternoon you just had to ask one of the yard-workers what they were doing when Camile hit. Everyone had a story. Some of them might even have been true! With New Orleans being so low and with the eye's pressure being so low as well, well I hope it misses a high tide. I remember that Camile laid waste to things well inland with tornados galore. I hope we miss those too! Good luck to all in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. I have this terrible feeling your gonna need it.
