Umm, busted.  I remember the difference now, the Leica flavor had a
shorter shoe.  My turret does in fact view just off center (R) on my
IIIf.

I don't think this is correct. Regardless of whether the axis of the
turret lies to the left or 
right of the mounting foot, the focal length in use is always over the
foot.
