Given that liberals scream about how bias the media is in favor of the Bush Administration, and reactionaries scream about the liberal media that is so bias in favor of the Bush Administration, someone, somewhere, is obviously presenting a by-and-large balanced enough picture to piss everyone off. ;-) And as to the great media overseas - Lord knows the average British paper with its full-page T&A displays is pretty much total crap. And Lord also knows the average Brit doesn't read the Economist - just as the average American doesn't read the Wall Street Journal. The reality is that with advent of the internet, anyone who complains about not being sufficient informed about what's going on in the U.S. or the world is simply confessing to being a lazy putz - because more news and opinion is out there - and free - than has ever been available at any previous time in history. Is the mainstream U.S. media controled by major corporations, blah blah blah? Yes, it is. Just as for at least the first hundred years it was controled completely by political parties, and just as the major U.S. papers were parts of chains, owned and directed by folks such as Hearst and Pulitzer who had huge political axes to grind. I, too, am tearing out what hair I have over the antics of the current administration and I am not a Washington insider, just a little guy sitting in his home office, able with a click of a mouse to get all the information I could possibly begin to digest. The big problem today is not The Media, it's The People - who are too bleeping dumb to know when they're being had. Now, back to our previously scheduled program for more mental masterbation over what what a Japanese copier company masquerading as a German camera company will introduce at Photokina. :-) Bad Dog -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+bdcolen=earthlink.net@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+bdcolen=earthlink.net@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of Frank Dernie Sent: Friday, September 17, 2004 1:31 PM To: Leica Users Group Subject: Re: [Leica] Re: The Economist (WAS: Kerry Who) I read an interview with Angelina Jolie, the American actress, on a plane last week. One of the reasons she likes being out of the USA is to get world news, she said even the big newspapers in the US give superficial coverage of world affairs, my experience would agree, though I have only visited 20 to 30 US locations. It must be just about impossible for the majority of Americans to get a balanced view of world affairs as they are given no data. One of my friends who is an international expert in Washington, doing mainly government work, is tearing her hair out at the antics of the current administration and its ignorance.
