Doug:

Although my story is nothing in comparison to yours, I was no less 
surprised when this swan attacked me right after I shot this photo. The 
fisheye lens makes him appear at a distance but he was only 5-6 feet away.

His mate was somewhere in the distance with some tiny signets.
