It has designed its glasses to complement specific wine varietals or spirits (e.g. single malt, bourbon, martini). http://www.riedel.com has more information along with a short treatise on the taste centers of the human tongue. I've been to wine tastings where the guests consumed the same wine from both a bar wineglass and a Riedel wineglass. And I've done the same test at home on single malts. In both cases the Riedel contents were tastier than those from generic containers - like Leica lenses produce better images than, say, Sigma. As to the D.C. Lagavullin shortage, Laphroaig maybe?
