P&S (non-removable lenses) cameras don't. The shutter on removable lens digital cameras basically keep the sensor clean during a lens change. Sensors, being run by high speed electrical signals, builds-up static and is a HUGE dust magnet. The shutters in digital SLR's basically get out of the way quickly so that the sensor substrate pulse can actually take the picture. Actually, there have been all kinds of shutter hybrid arrangements with interactions between the camera shutter and the electronic substrate shutter. The bottom line is that the electrons are captured by the substrate pulse. JB
