Enquiring minds want to know? ;-) -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+bdcolen=earthlink.net@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+bdcolen=earthlink.net@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of Walker Smith Sent: Thursday, October 14, 2004 11:33 AM To: lug@leica-users.org Subject: [Leica] Geesh - and we though camera people had it tough > > >I think we(USA) were content on selling arms to both sides. Remember >the GI's that wondered was Germany was driving Ford's? We're just after >the quickest buck. > > So now we're "guilty" of engaging in commerce with nations who were at war with each other? That's weak..... very weak. The US sold raw materials and manufactured goods to the belligerants. So what? Are you aware that when the US fought WW1, we did so without manufacturing a single artillery tube? Our artillery and machineguns were manufactured by the French & British. Only late in the war did we begin supplying our own machineguns to replace the ones supplied by the Allies. >Now if Europe and US had not let Germany continue the Submarine >Warfare, WWII may have been different. > After a short occupation period on the fringes of Germany, the US pulled ALL troops from Europe, leaving enforcement of the restrictions against German rearmament to France & Britain. The failure to prevent the Germans from building their Army & Navy again doesn't fall on the shoulders of the US. Walker _______________________________________________ Leica Users Group.
