Professional LEICA photographer (like Ted) and as an adjunct to his normal photo gigs, he photographs gemstones and has self published several gemstone books. He used to be a LUGger. He made the soft releases that I use on my Leica cameras. Exquisitely designed, small, very unobtrusive. http://www.sciencesbookreview.com/Diamonds_1887651020.html http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/002-0936268-0498428 The last e-mail address that I used to talk to him via was: fward@erols.com He is a great guy and I'm sure would gladly give you some pointers.
