I am Italian, was brought up Catholic with an interesting food culture.....

On Fridays, in the old days, you had to eat fish.  My family loved snails.
So to eat snails on Friday, and be in compliance with the Catholic Church,
our local fish store sold land snails and sea snails.......   Of course, the
sea snails were more expensive.......
