It is a source of endless broken finger nails. It sometimes helps to have a small (watchmakers) screwdriver in your gadget bag, you slip the blade into the gap between the adapter and the flange where the locking lug sits and gently lever the lug up until it disengages, then you can turn the adapter off the lens.
