To my mind, the strongest of your images is http://www.dragonsgate.net/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3554&size=big&s ort=8&cat=3038 But this is mildly marred by MED's closed eyes. The others lack--again to my eye--a compelling engagement with the subject. They are technically proficient, but they are not weighty--perhaps because they don't capture a defining mood or gesture, or, perhaps, they don't invite me into the world of Middle Eastern drummers; I simply can't find a purchase in them. I struggle with this because my wife, too, is a professional musician (a violinist) and I spend an awful lot of time among people who make a joyous noise. At the same time, I struggle, mostly unsuccessfully (which is why you don't see any of the hundreds of frames I've expended) to capture this world. Still, bro', I feel your pain. Great subject; strong attempt; just not there, IMHO. Chhers! It is so obvious too once you start doing it. The light just makes the texture much more interesting! Here's a series of pictures of Mary Ellen Donald (and my ubiquitous wife), the acclaimed Middle Eastern Drum teacher and performer: http://www.dragonsgate.net/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=3038 Unless some thing else shows up, I think one of them will be my PAW for this week.
