When photography started, there was a belief that it had to imitate painting to be seen as art. Digital photography is a huge leap away from traditional work and allows so many abstractions and "changes of mind" that it will take a while for it to find its "art". To be honest, I don't think the long term future of digital imaging will be in reproducing images which look "antique", so for what its worth: I'd suggest finding the future of this new wave of imaging options.
