They knew they had to get one, maybe two, good shots on their cut-film holder and get them back to the office fast, before the competition at UP did. That meant concentration, technique and above all speed. Technique comes in knowing what your camera & lens can do. Having 36 chances to get a good shot make lots of us lazy. If we knew we had to deliver with, say, just 12 exposures, we might "work harder" to make every shot count.
