The very sad reality is that - and I realize there are glaring exceptions to
the blanket statement I'm about to make - the majority of those who major in
"education" and end up teaching in public schools do so because they
couldn't cut it in much else. Yes, there are some truly inspirational
teachers. But not many.

Again, apologies to any of you who are brilliant Ed majors. But...

Have any of you read the "hand-outs" from the teachers of your elementary,
middle and high school teachers?

My daughter attended high school in the mid 80's. I saw the decline in both
text books and teacher provided material then. My loving partner's son lived
with us and attended high school in the mid 90's. I saw a futher decline.
Her daughter, living with us, just finished her junior year. The current
material from the teachers reads like stuff that you would not give a B to
if it came from a 5th grader.

If the teachers cannot construct a sentence, spell (or even use a
spell-checker); how can we expect the students to do so?
