Part One of "What I Did On My Summer Vacation"

A few weeks ago my wife and I went back to her home in northern
Minnesota. Her mother lives in a senior complex in Duluth, her home is
up the North Shore in Beaver Bay (perhaps more in another posting.)

At one time, at the turn into the 20th Century, Duluth was one of the
wealthiest cities in America with incomes turned from shipping,
railroads, mining and timber. Today it's a shadow of that former self.

One of the grand estates is now open to the public. The first night we
were there we joined Jan's mother and her sister and brother-in-law
for a concert on the grounds of Glensheen. The concert is paid for by
royalties from music, which seem to be in decline these days for some
odd reason.

Here's the "big band" performed against the backdrop of the stables.

The crowd brings their own lawn chairs.

Chilly Lake Superior forms a nice backdrop.

Even the younger members of the crowds enjoy dancing to a bit of swing.

These were all shot with the new BW400CN film from Kodak. The evening
was very clear and the light was a bit harsh. Shot with M6ttl.
