Richard,

Because sharpness is normally considered a desireable attribute in a
photographic image. This is, after all, why we love Leica lenses. In
some situations an unsharp picture is acceptable because of its strong
visual content or the uniqueness of the situation--for example, Ted's
picture of Pierre Trudeau sliding down a banister. In some other cases,
unsharpness in the form of motion blur may be good if it adds a feeling
of movement, making the image more dynamic. But in most cases--and the
picture you posted falls in that category--a sharp image is better than
an unsharp one.
