Bean bags are great! And you can take them on trips with you, empty
and weightless, and fill them up with beans when you get where you
are going. In a pinch, you could cook the beans and eat them. I'm
all in favor of bean bags. Zip lock bags work fine, but you can also
make your own cloth bags with velcro at the top. Just leave them
about half empty to be more flexible. I've often grabbed a handful
of beans and wrapped them in a Domke wrap for a makeshift bean
bag. Works great! Better than tabletop tripods.
