In an interview I saw on TV that was played shortly after his death, 
when he talked of how he was walking and saw the sailor and woman,
that he put the Leica up to his eye and shot the photo. He said he 
didn't know until he got back and processed the film what her had.
He also said that the sailor in dark clothing & the nurse in white made 
the picture for if they were both wearing the same color, it wouldn't 
have made a strong photo.
