It varies from film to film.

Tri-X in Xtol 1:3 looks excellent with only 75ml of developer in my
Patterson tank. Tmax 100 on the other hand is a disaster at this
dilution/amount of developer giving negatives so thin you wonder who's
stolen the photograph. FP4 and HP5 are also ok with 75ml.

Hmmm... "everyone" swears up and down that you need at least 100-125 ml.
of 
Xtol per roll... Is Mark someone special with super power :-)?
