Unless you or your daughter have an investment in another manufacturer's interchangeable SLR lenses, Canon is seems to be the consensus choice of reviewers for higher-ISO digital shooting. Why? The Canon high-ISO mojo is mo' better to begin with. Plus, you can make it even better. Though I don't know if it's the case with the Rebel XT, the 20D or the 5D, possibly both, have a user-selectable Custom Function that, in effect, lets the photographer say, "Yes, most exhalted digital wizard camera body, you please employ a little extra processing time and make image as noiseless as possible. Humbly, I wait." Or something like that. Anyway, why not go to a Canon-Nikon camera store and do a high-ISO A-B test? Even throw Minolta and Pentax into the mix and make it an A-B-C-D test. Then, take the card home and evaluate the images until your eyes go wonky. -Chris Lawson -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: pswango@att.net > My daughter is shopping for a first-time DSLR in the low-end of the price > range. > Her previous experience is with film cameras -- she has a BA in > Photography. > The Nikon D-50 seems attractive for the price.
