The third version's hood is not bad as long as you get the later one with the viewfinder portal. I find most Leica lens caps a little lacking in tenacity. I use the old Canon caps for my Leica E55 lenses. They only come off when you take them off. The Leica A42 slip-on caps are fine. I haven't found a great replacement for the E46 cap on a 35/1.4A. While the Leica E46 cap works well on the 50/1.4A, it significantly overhangs the front of a 35/1.4A. The Contact G series E46 cap is only marginally better in that it doesn't overhang but it is still willing to let go at the least provocation. Some of the new "Zeiss" M lenses use E46 filters but their caps look like Vivitar rejects. Still worth a look I suppose.
