Subject: [Leica] Small Camera/Folded Optics

Boy, everyone's gotten so jaded.  :-))   This is 
clever industrial design in the same way that the 
SX-70 is and in the same way the Ur-Leica was. 
Each broke new ground.  Being able to fold the 
lens and incorporate much of its length in the 
width of the body rather than in its thickness, 
points the way to smaller, more capable cameras. 
Unlike in a film camera, with folding the sensor 
can be placed anywhere in a digital camera body 
that is convenient for best optical performance.

Folding is common design practice in space optics 
where available volume is always at a premium but 
unique in consumer cameras with such complex 
optics as far as I know.
