Each broke new ground. Being able to fold the lens and incorporate much of its length in the width of the body rather than in its thickness, points the way to smaller, more capable cameras. Unlike in a film camera, with folding the sensor can be placed anywhere in a digital camera body that is convenient for best optical performance.
