Eric, did you get an answer to this one yet?

Here is a copy of info from Leica I received when I was building an  
IR release system for my R8.  Re the attachments mentioned, it is  
available from the Binder connectors website.  Or I could send it to  
you.  Let me know.

At first, you need the original connector:
manufacturer: Binder (Germany), see
http://www.binder-connector.de/e/index.html
Type: 711
Order no: 99-0479-100-08

Contact arrangement of this connector is given in the attached  
document (711.pdf), see for the numbering of the eight pin type.
Pin 1 is electrical Ground.

Switch on camera: connect pin 1 to pin 8 longer than 20msec.
Release camera: connect pin 1 to pin 2 longer than 120msec. Permanent  
connection will result in continuous release.
