I have only limited experience with the older lens so I can't make a direct comparison, but I think that you will be pleased with the new version.It has very nice out of focus highlights and is quite sharp.It could probably use a better lens hood, but then it would not fit so nicely into a pocket. I think I remember a review by Erwin Puts a while back that declared the new version "better", whatever that means.
