There are quite a few interesting old facilities spread throughout the anthracite region of Pennsylvania - access to many is a bit iffy since there are state laws restricting access to mining sites. One site that I find fascinating is the St Nicholas Coal Breaker outside of Mahoney City. When it was built in the 1930's, it was the largest facility of its kind in the world when it was built in the 1930's. In April, some folks from the underground miners group (undergroundminers.com) are planning a tour of the facility in April with the permission of the owner, Reading Anthracite. Rumor has it that there are plans to make a museum out of the place. --Glenn
