[Leica] Olympus = OT

The most interesting photographs I see on the LUG --, and I look at
nearly every one that's posted -- are made with Leica's and film. That's
just my general impression, and I keep wondering why. 

I'm still waiting for digital camera to come along that's worthy of
saying goodbye to film. I know from experience that any digicam will
have a limited shelf life with me. I've gone back to Leica's and film
while I wait for things to further evolve. If I wait 10 years that's OK.
Leicas and film have served me well for the previous 25 years. 

I like discussions. It's buying that's frustrating. Especially buying of
items that get high marks in some circles, but I ultimately find
lacking. Most discussion of other systems just makes me feel more
content with Leica. So indirectly everything is on topic. :-)

For some reason I can't warm up to the 4/3 format. Just like if Leica
made a half frame camera. Not matter how good it was, after a certain
infatuation period I'd feel the glass was half empty.

We live in one of the most dynamic times in the history of
photography. Digital cameras are evolving incredibly fast as are
lenses for them and the devices to print those images.

Discussing the cameras that are defining the marketplace is a part of
the culture in which Leica lives. The DMR and the upcoming Digital M,
the Panasonic variants under the Leica name, all are informed by the
marketplace and so discussing these cameras, looking at the  images
produced by skill photographers, using them in situations which are
clearly those for which the M has been traditionally used.

We've talked about various printing papers for digital printers too
and since Leica makes no such printer they  might be as much off
topic. But I make digital prints from Leica images. So I think they
are relevent too.

It's a fact though that over the past few years the quantity of purely
Leica discussions on this list have declined. And perhaps that's
because Leica is becoming a backwater in the current photographic
marketplace. Still great optics but living mostly in the film world.
