I believe it is well understood but summarily rejected as a result of waves of distortion and delusion regarding wealth and power. Especially from a liberal pre-capitalist perspective (those of the original framers of the US constitution) where controlling the thoughts and actions of the masses is believed to be the essence of a stable democracy. Add in the modern propaganda that corporations act as the benefactors for the masses and already there is enough distortion to justify the most obvious scams to an accommodating people. The only question anyone asks is "How can WE enrich ourselves at someone else's expense" The beauty of corporate PR is they convince the someone else's that they are the we's!
