But another legitimate beef with the media companies is the ludicrous elongation of copyright over the past several decades. The joke I've heard is that copyright terms will always be extended to support the age of Disney's Mickey Mouse :-) There was a Supreme Court case in past few years that Congress's extensions weren't "reasonable and beneficial" (can't recall the precise constitutional language), but the challengers lost. Of course, we all know that copyright does not extend legally or philosophicall from property rights, at least in the States.
