A single DVD or CD copy is too is dangerous. A single DVD or CD will
fail in time. I use external USB drives for photo storage, with a
duplicate copy made every night. When I go away for a while, I drop
off the backup at my bank safe deposit.

I could not face the thought of managing a large number of DVDs and
periodically recopying  them as the formats become obsolete. Even if
the disks last forever, which they will not, devides that can read
DVDs will likely not be around  in 10 years.
