Alastair,
I do exactly the same as Nathan, except that I dont sharpen - I do that 
just before printing depending on the size of the print. Another point 
is all photos are in Adobe RGB colour space, except JPEGs which are in 
sRGB. If you want some time saving script based conversion programs, to 
be used from Bridge, from one of the authors of Photoshop, check out 
Russel Brown's site:
