Subject: [Leica] Nathan's PAW 45: Rainy Remembrance Day
From: hoppyman at bigpond.net.au (G Hopkinson)

Nathan, Australians consider themselves very fortunate that no war has ever
been fought on our soil, beyond some bombing and a
famous miniature submarine raid on Sydney. However, while still connected to
Empire, a high proportion of Australians for the
population fought in the two world wars, as you know. British leadership in
both is fiercely criticised and really led to separation
from British command by early 1940's. Of course there are other alliances
and interests.
Historically, for WW11 in Europe, it's very interesting to consider that the
Netherlands is very highly regarded here for fierce
resistance against the invaders. Frankly the French are much less so.
Still, more importantly, we might all hope that such monstrous and appalling
conflicts should never be seen again.

Anyway, thanks again for posting those glimpses.

Cheers
Hoppy

Thanks, Hoppy! The Australians can indeed be proud of what they did to
liberate this wretched continent.
