She also lives on a different planet than I do, which is probably why I'm writing this here instead of sending it to the LHSA. She doesn't really seem to know very much about the online world and didn't understand my desire to accomplish things online. But she gave me what I needed: my login code and password. I managed to get into the Members section of the lhsa.org website, and after taking some Marezine to deal with the vertigo of the visual focus jumping all over my screen, and the circular links taking me forward and back and around, I managed to figure out how to navigate to the "renew online", where it told me that the renewal rates were $55 for the USA and $65 for Canada and $80 for other countries, I filled out the payment form. When I got to the part where it asked me what country I lived in, I was given two choices: USA and United States. I selected "United States". It then charged me $80, presumably because the $55 rate is only if you reply that you live in the USA. I'm beginning to understand that historical societies and computers will never have a smooth relationship. And I accomplished my goal of renewing, though it took approximately 25 times as long as it took me to renew my membership in Salon Premium a few moments later. I hope they don't try to refund my excess $25 but instead apply it to hiring a new website designer.
