Subject: [Leica] Is it just me?

the 2mm difference between a 16mm and 18mm is huge, though of course from 50
to 52 is small.
Fast ultra wide lenses are optically unlikely, particularly if one wants to
maintain the compatibility with 36x24 coverage.

I understand the real world of working photojournalists, I was in it for
quite some time in the Navy. If I were shooting architecture, I'd use a
large format with a wide anyways, as I'm sure most would. For what the
Leica is good for though, the small size, light weight and perhaps faster
aperture of a fixed focal length lens is optimal. Photojournalism, street
photography, candid portraiture, these things are the M rangefinder's forte,
not the exacting work of interior architectural photography where direct
viewing of the subject is necessary, especially with a lens this wide.
"...a 2mm wider lens makes the difference between a smashing good photograph
and nothing." Don't blame the tool.
Philip

Hi George
Absolutely more times than I want to remember when a 2mm wider lens makes
the difference between a smashing good photograph and nothing.

I find this comment by Philip Forrest who wrote,
>> I can't imagine looking at a scene and saying "if I only had a lens
>> two millimeters longer (or wider)." instead, I'd just take two steps
>> and shoot.<<<

Foolish gibberish at best and obviously the comment of an inexperienced
amateur weekend warrior!

Sorry Philip it's called the real world of working photojournalists!
