I made a huge vat of tortilla soup, a chicken-broth base bursting with
zucchini and tomato and carrots and garlic and potato and various peppers,
served with shredded cheese, avocado, and deep-fried tortilla strips. It
didn't quite go with the other "side dishes" (candied yams, braised long
beans, Brussels sprouts, and mashed potatoes) but people were happy and well
fed.
