I do not know as I do not have an SF20 nor an M8. I am simply talking from knowing how the flash has to work on Digital. With digital the sensor is like a mirror, very reflective. Since it is so reflective the flash can not meter the reflected light from the film plane and turn off at moment of proper exposure as it did in film. So with digital the flash fires a pre-flash to meter, then almost instantly fires the exposing flash. The need to change this is one reason flash photography for digital has taken a while to get to the point flash on film was 10 years ago. Hope this helps some.
