This does not preclude keeping the gates open for the entire time the slit
shutter is making its traverse.

Frank there may be other design considerations that neither you nor I nor
anyone else aside from Leica's engineering team is aware of and without
specific knowledge of the shutter's operation anything we armchair
engineers conclude is little more than speculation.  Over and out.
