Kyle's a great photographer and a great cook. But imagine if the Family of
Man was about, well, Richard Man's family. It would not have nearly the
diversity, global interest, or zing.

I suspect that the LUG cookbook will be primarily a community event and only
secondarily a cookbook. One of my favorite cookbooks is the Junior League
cookbook of Lafayette, Louisiana. It's as much a window into Lafayette
Parish as it is instructions on how to make food. Who knows what we'll come
up with. I think of Philippe Orlent every time I cook Brussels Sprouts,
because ever since I started using his recipe, I can't go back to the way I
used to cook them (or even admit what it was).

I intend to submit the four dishes that my children always ask me to make
when they come to visit. And maybe an essay about the ingredients.
